Lexi Limitless embarked on an unforgettable journey across Europe, where she uncovered a newfound admiration for the enchanting country of Georgia.
Lexi Alford, more widely recognized as Lexi Limitless, is a prominent figure in the travel community and had previously made waves when she became the youngest person to visit every country in the world at just 21 years old.
In her late twenties now, Alford recently shared her latest ambitious venture with Euronews Travel: her attempt to break world records by being the first to circumnavigate the globe in an electric vehicle (EV).
This extraordinary journey was meticulously documented in the three-part docuseries titled ‘Charge Around The Globe’, which premiered on Prime Video on November 18.
Lexi Limitless: Journeying Across Six Continents in an Electric Vehicle
Driven by an inherent curiosity about the world and the myriad of cultures it holds, Alford has always sought to push her boundaries. Her moniker, ‘Lexi Limitless,’ reflects this very philosophy.
“I believe that stepping outside of your comfort zone is vital for personal growth,” Alford stated.
With this ethos in mind, Alford set an ambitious goal: to break the world record within a strict timeframe of 90 days.
“While prolonged stays in a single location are ideal for truly immersing oneself in cultural experiences, the purpose of this global circumnavigation was distinctly different,” she elaborated. “Although we aimed for 90 days, realities shifted, and the journey stretched longer.”
Honoring Pioneering Female Explorers: Aloha Wanderwell
Alford’s record-breaking attempt was inspired by Aloha Wanderwell, a Canadian explorer who made history as the first woman to drive around the globe in 1922.
“Her legacy, like many other female explorers, hasn’t received the recognition it deserves,” Alford expressed. “As I documented my journey, I felt strongly connected to Wanderwell’s experiences, despite the century that separates our adventures.”
Alford chose to drive a Ford Explorer EV in homage to Wanderwell, who famously drove a Ford Model-T. She commenced and concluded her journey in Nice, France, the very same location Wanderwell departed over a hundred years ago.
“Interestingly, I ended up spending the most time outside of the U.S. in Nice, which has become a second home for me,” Alford noted.
The Story Behind the EV World-Record Journey
While the docuseries highlights the incredible drive, Alford’s journey was a year in the making, requiring extensive planning to meet world record specifications.
Traveling by EV presented unique challenges, particularly in identifying reliable charging stations along the route. Alford explained, “We made every effort to map out potential charging locations, but the unpredictability of actual charger availability was a constant concern.”
To qualify for the world record, Alford needed to traverse a minimum of five continents. Given her role as the sole driver, logistical hurdles required innovative solutions, including resetting the clock with new vehicles on different continents.
In total, four distinct vehicles awaited Alford across her route, adding another layer of complexity to her meticulously planned adventure.
“I Gained Valuable Insights While Driving Around the Globe”
This epic odyssey enabled Alford to explore remote regions, revealing unique glimpses into local cultures.
“Driving through Europe was incredibly satisfying; the cultural shifts and landscapes were breathtaking. Experiencing lesser-known places like Serbia and the scenic beauty of northern Greece added depth to my travels,” she reflected.
Alford’s top pick for a European destination? “Georgia, without a doubt. It’s one of the most underrated countries I’ve ever visited.”
Her journey from the Atacama Desert in Chile to the landscapes of Argentina showcased stunning, isolated regions where human presence felt scarce, adding a sense of adventure to the challenges of charging her EV.
“Driving through such remote areas stirred my sense of adventure, but it also led to moments of range anxiety, especially when chargers were few and far between,” she explained.
“Traveling is All About Human Connections”
Despite the rigidity of her timeline, Alford was determined not to miss out on authentic encounters across the 28 countries she visited. “I connected with extraordinary individuals, such as an all-female anti-poaching unit in South Africa and the first female Muslim MMA fighter in Malaysia,” she recounted.
“My time in the Himalayas with a Buddhist nun named Karma taught me invaluable lessons on mindfulness, which came as a comfort during this intense journey,” she added.
Would Lexi embark on another adventure of this magnitude? “Absolutely, but I’d prefer a much slower pace next time,” she laughed. “Despite the exhilarating moments, it took a toll on my physical well-being.”
As she looks to the future, Alford aims to reflect and plan her next incredible escapade.
