Cloud, Fastweb and Aruba won the competition for the national polo in Italy

Confirmed predictions: Fastweb and Aruba they won the European competition to make the National strategic polel’cloud infrastructure for the digital transformation of public administration Italian. The grouping beat the offer made by the consortium formed by Leonardo, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Cdp), Tim and Sogei, promoter of the digitization project chosen by the Ministry for Digital Transformation on December 27, 2021.

The consortium made up of the telecommunications company Tim, the national defense champion Leonardo, the IT company of the State Sogei and Cdp will have fifteen days to assert his right of first refusalas promoter of the project, and to win the realization and management of the service, matching the winning bid.

Fastweb and Aruba have in fact offered an important discount on the basis of the auction, with one discount on the lists of 39.19%, while the rival consortium only 23.36%. To be able to win the tender, the four state entities will therefore have to cut costs to complete the project under the same conditions offered by the other group.

The project assignment procedure, with a starting price of € 4.4 billionwas carried out by Difesa Servizi, an in-house company of the Ministry of Defense, as a central purchasing body and with the collaborative supervision of the National Anti-Corruption Authority.

The giant opens two data centers in Italy in Milan and Turin. According to the university of the Piedmontese capital they will generate up to 65 thousand jobs and added value of 3.3 billion

What is the National Strategic Pole for?

The aim of the call is to create a cloud infrastructure for the data of public bodies, currently parked in approximately 11mila data center95% of which present deficiencies in the minimum safety requirementsreliability, processing capacity and efficiency “according to the latest census of theAgency for digital Italy. Based on the approved project, by 2025 the data of at least 75% of Italian public offices will have to be moved to the new cloud.

Before being migrated, the information will be divided into three risk classes: the most delicate are the data strategicsuch as the Defense data, then those criticssuch as health care ones, and finally those ordinary, the exposure of which does not constitute a danger to the public machine. Depending on the division, government offices will be able to access different types of clouds. Everything will be managed by the national strategic hub, which will be divided into at least four data centers in two regionsthe migration will be financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
