Conclusion from June 25th, 2021
The Ecovacs Deebot T9 + works with a top navigation among the best vacuum robots in the test. His path-finding is extremely stable, reliable and can only be stopped by carpet fringes. In the balanced suction mode, it ensures good dust pick-up. It is also very well equipped. This is not only ensured by the detailed app, but also by the supplied suction station and the built-in air freshener. The robot is also quite quiet. However, the suction container turns out to be quite small. The wiping function is double-edged: on the one hand, the disposable pads are comfortable, on the other hand, disposable wipers are ecologically questionable. In addition, the robot is very expensive at around 800 euros.

Ecovacs Deebot T9 + in the test: lose eyes and forget?
In daily use, thanks to the station and its reliable navigation, you will not have to interact with the vacuum-cleaning Deebot for weeks. Because of his high climbing ability of 1.8 cm and his front-facing camera for object recognition, he avoids almost all the obstacles with which we challenged him. Socks lying around, Lego bricks and cables do not cause him any problems. The only exceptions are carpet fringes: Here it gets tangled and needs a while to fight its way back. The carpet can give way.
Follow-up costs en masse: The Deebot T9 + wants to be pampered
A big exception to the “fire and forget” concept is the wiping function. The washer fluid tank must be removed and cleaned after each use. You should also remove the disposable wipe and let it dry. “Disposable” is a confused term. According to the instructions, the wipe should be thrown away after use. However, when we asked, Ecovacs told us that the cloth can be washed and dried. So there are up to five applications. That is still expensive and, as with many robotic mops, also ecologically questionable – especially if you like to have it wiped through frequently. We think that the wiping function creates a nice shine on hard floors, but is not worth the maintenance effort – as is often the case with combination devices.
You have to expect the following additional costs: Original replacement wipes cost around 20 euros for 25 pieces. In addition, the robot has an air freshener capsule that should spread a pleasant scent for around 60 days. These capsules are not yet widely available in Germany, so far we have only found import street prices of around 10 US dollars. Furthermore, the original bags for the suction station cost around 20 euros for three pieces. However, cheaper versions from third-party manufacturers can also be found for the bags and pads.
Suction power & app
When it comes to the pure suction function, we have nothing to complain about. With its brushes in the standard suction mode (the second weakest of four), the robot removes around 100 grams and thus around 45 percent of our test quartz sand from the low-pile carpet. That is an impeccable figure. It also pulls any fluff that has entered from the fibers. It is very fast, the Deebot T9 + vacuums a 20 m² room in 15 minutes. But if he can’t finish your apartment with one battery charge, the cleaning work for the day is done: the robot needs six and a half hours to be fully charged again.
The app is easy to use, and we rarely find anything to complain about here in the industry. We lack gimmicks such as live images from the onboard camera or a manual control function, but you can have your scanned apartment displayed not only in 2D but also as a 3D map. Otherwise, the robot has many good app features, such as no-go zones, without which you would no longer want to live as a robot owner.
