Actually, Netflix is in the process of building mightily in the fantasy field. Series like “The Witcher”, “Shadow and Bone” or “Sweet Tooth” are booming. Unfortunately this does not apply to all formats and so “Cursed” says goodbye after only one season.
Fantasy series are in demand at Netflix like never before, after all, the streaming provider is constantly producing new stories in this genre, but not all of these titles are permanent. Now “Cursed” got it after only one season and there won’t be a sequel. Further seasons are often not worthwhile for Netflix, as they cannot generate new subscribers.
“Dead Girls Don’t Lie” star Katherine Langford was supposed to make the new adaptation of the Arthurian legend a hit for Netflix, but unfortunately nothing came of it. The audience ratings fell short of expectations and hardly any fans could be found. With that, Netflix pulls the plug and after one season, despite the cliffhanger, the fantasy story is over.
Cursed: Despite Cliffhanger – No hope for the fans
The first season of “Cursed” ended with a massive cliffhanger, but there will probably never be a breakup. Nimue (Langford) went in search of Merlin after their entire village was burned to the ground. The young mercenary Arthur is at her side all the time. Together they want to deliver the mysterious sword from Nimue’s possession to Merlin, not realizing that Merlin is pursuing very own plans with it.
Comic legend Frank Miller provided the material for the series with his interpretation of the Mistress of the Lake. But the material seems to be difficult to digest for the audience and so the story flopped about an Arthurian legend with a strong female character. The only consolation for fans is the comic template, which delves even deeper into the subject of Nimue and allows speculation as to how it could have continued in another season.
