Realme 8 5G review, the low cost smartphone that challenges the market

With a really low price but with respectable technical characteristics this device could become a real best buy

Other Chinese companies before realme have used the same strategy, that of making their way into the crowded telephony market with quality products at very competitive prices. The shape does not change, but now the substance is so much because the new realme 8 5G to 199 euro puts in the hands of consumers a complete and good quality product with an investment within everyone’s reach.

In fact, this smartphone has been designed to challenge the market not only by making 5G technology more and more accessible but also by avoiding users having to do too many sacrifices: a low cost with features that are normally found on higher-end devices.

Good is the LCD display with FHD + resolution but the maximum brightness stops at 600 nits suffering from direct sunlight, but the refresh rate reaches 90 Hz and the color quality is more than valid for enjoying any kind of content.

A display with very thin bezels that help increase the perception of the build quality of the realme 8 5G. It is a pleasant phone to the touch, with a rather conventional look but one that you appreciate the low weight (185 grams) and thickness which stops at 8.5mm.

The rear body, obviously in polycarbonate, loses the conspicuous writing “Dare to leap”, gaining elegance, also because the photographic module is rather small in size and with an absolutely acceptable thickness.

The substance of the imaging department is that of a product in this price range, a phone that has three cameras with a 48 megapixel main sensor but with a very bright lens (f / 1.8). Next to it is a black and white portrait lens and a macro lens with focus up to 4 centimeters.

The photos are pretty good, even those at night thanks to the good contribution of artificial intelligence, but it is above all here that the differences with the more expensive models are noticed. The wide angle is missing, a pushed optical zoom is missing, 4K videos are missing. On the other hand, the 16 megapixel front camera is discreet.

However, the performance of the processor is interesting MediaTeck Dimensity 700, a good octa-core with 2.2 GHz speed and made with 7 nanometer process. We are clearly far from the top of the market that cannot be taken as a reference in this price range, but in practice this chipset makes the use of the phone very smooth and stable, also avoiding overheating phenomena.

The processor also works very well in terms of energy savings, with an efficiency of 28% higher than the 8nm chips, but here the real asset is given by the 5000 mAh battery which leads the realme 8 5G to go over the hill quietly in the second day of use with a single charge, as long as you do not squeeze the phone excessively. If necessary, there is the fast charging at 18W.

Two other elements make this smartphone interesting, the first is it slot for three cards, which allows you to use two sims at the same time but also to expand the memory with microSD up to 1 terabyte. The second is the presence of the audio jack, now a rarity.

So in conclusion realme 8 5G really is a complete phone and with a nice distinctive point, namely the possibility of fully exploiting the super-fast network, supporting both 5G Standalone and NSA systems. Aesthetically appealing in both Supersonic Black and Blue colors, it is also appreciated for the great autonomy and fluidity ensured by the UI 2.0 interface based on Android 11.

The most convincing element in absolute, however, the price remains: 199 euro it is an absolutely unbeatable asset right now. Even more so is the discounted price of 179 euros provided for those who buy this phone in the starting configuration 4 + 64 GB on the days of 18, 19 and 20 May exclusively on Amazon.

A 6 + 128 version is also available for 249 euros, reduced in promotion to 229 euros on launch days. Our final grade is therefore high considering that with this low cost it is impossible to find better. The realme 8 5G is a low cost product, but it surprises for what it offers.
