The tech startup of Oneplus co-founder Carl Pei has announced the first details about its first product: The true wireless earplugs “Nothing Ear (1)” will be presented on July 27th and will be available at the same price as Google’s Pixel Buds A. .
Carl Peis‘ Nothing pursues a marketing strategy similar to that of Oneplus: the startup is announcing little bits of information piece by piece, which will end on July 27 with the presentation of the first product, the Ear 1. Originally, Nothing wanted to present its first product in June. The earplugs could indeed be interesting as they will be equipped with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) despite being relatively inexpensive.
Nothing describes the Ear 1 as the first product of an entire ecosystem. Details about the earplugs are still rare. According to the company, the wireless earplugs are supposed to combine “rough beauty and precise technology for a pure sound experience”.
In terms of equipment, Nothing speaks of a “state-of-the-art active noise suppression (ANC)”, which is implemented, among other things, by three three high-resolution microphones. The manufacturer does not give any further specific details about the specifications, but they should offer top equipment. “Users can expect a first-class user experience,” promises Nothing.
While other manufacturers often charge prices in excess of 200 euros for earplugs with active noise cancellation – such as Apple for theirs Airpods Pro or Samsung for the Galaxy Buds Pro – Pei’s new tech startup only charges 99 euros for it. In this price category are about Googles Pixel Buds A-Series located.
As far as design is concerned, the im Founding partner Teenage Engineering announced in February can. The renowned Swedish electronics company is known for its chic audio products such as the OP-1 synthesizer, which has been celebrated for its unconventional industrial design, among other things. Based on a render image of the “Concept 1” earplugs shown in May, we can prepare for a product with transparent elements.
Like Oneplus once, Peis’ Nothing lets the promo column swing without revealing much about the product. In the end, it is not the marketing measures that make you curious about the earplugs, but the many well-known investors and the initial investment of seven million US dollars, which the company had already raised without an official round of financing.
In addition to GV (formerly Google Ventures), iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman and the well-known Youtuber Casey Neistat have invested in Nothing.
